How to buy and sell used panties in Japan part #2

Warning: This post contains adult content

After my first used panty experience in Tokyo I desperately wanted to hunt down one of these secretive stores in order to better understand the fetish. I had been give some very vague directions from a local to a store called Rope in the Shibuya area of Tokyo. For those who don't know, there are many districts to Tokyo city. Shibuya to me is all about mainstream fashion. This is where the young shoppers go and it's also home to the busiest street crossing in the world.

Tucked around the corner behind the famous Shibuya 109 building is this secretive used panty store. It took me a couple hours to actually find the place as the instructions I were given were basic to say the least! All I had been told was to look out for a yellow sign in Japanese (which I cant read) then a small sign in a window stating ROPE, down one of the laneways a couple streets back from 109. This was all I had to go off! But I was determined to find this place.

Now that I finally found the place, I hesitated walking in. It looked like an old apartment building not a complex selling used panties. Was this store a joke? A myth? Was I being set up and Rope actually just sold... ropes? I was told to walk up one flight of stairs, go down the hallway and find the first door on the right. I found a door slightly ajar with a blatant yellow mat outside telling me I was at the right place. This was it. I was about to sell my soul, or perhaps my panties...

As you open the door the first thing you notice is a rather musty smell. Kind of like stepping into an un aired local op shop but much much worse. What I saw in front of me wasn't what I imagined. Somehow I expected the store to be huge, strategically lit and filled with colour and sound. Just like all the other adult stores in Japan. Blatant.

The store itself was small and cramped. Only about 20 square meters in size and it was packed to the roof with rack upon rack of girls uniforms. As I took my second step into the store I could see a man look up from behind the counter. He was in his 50s, newspaper in hand and he just stared at me but didn't say a word. I turned away from him and headed down the lane way of uniforms.

Packed inside the hundreds of plastic covers I could see not only girls high school uniforms but any sort of female uniform there could be, including McDonalds and airline stewardess. Prices varied depending on style of uniform as well as how elite the school was. If it were the formal uniform from a private girls school then higher the price went. If it came from just the local high school, then lower. I'm guessing the plastic covers weren't only to protect the uniform but to try halt the lingering odor from vanishing as these uniforms were not usually washed before sold...

As I reached the end of the row and turned the corner, I found a middle aged man rifling through a giant basket of loose panties. He didn't even look up as I brushed behind him. He was well and truly engrossed in the hunt. I could see that he had a few pairs slung over his arm. Obviously they were the ones he was considering purchasing. As another one was analyzed, inside and out, it made the cut or was thrown back into the tub as he reached for another pair. There were hundreds there... I was later to find out this was the washed panty stash. Men could hunt through for the most stained and interesting pairs. 3 for $20. What a bargain...

Once I could drag my eyes away from this man I found what I had come here for. In front of me was a wall full of used panties in bags obviously dirty and truly obscene. Row after row after row sat a platic bag the size to fit not only the dirty briefs but a photograph of the girl who had sold them. Girls in their high school uniforms, women in their business suits, club wear, jeans. Most of them showed their faces and some covered them up with their hair. Some flashed their knickers while they sat with their legs open in a photo and some stood there with their panties around their ankles.

As I scanned through the photographs they just seemed to get more extreme. Some had their underwear pulled tight into the nether regions and there was even a row dedicated to women standing over a toilet bowl while they pee'd into their briefs.... However most just sat there on the floor, smiling sweetly at the camera looking like the girl next door. It was almost like their best friend had just snapped their photograph while on a day trip to Disneyland, however I could see the backdrop behind them was the very store I was standing in. This was no fairytale location.

I was in shock. Some of the girls looked as young as 16. But most seemed to be of a legal age. I didn't know where to look or what to think. What was I doing here?? The man behind me coughed as he tried to move passed and make his way to the counter to pay for the 3 briefs he had finally decided on. I couldn't help but stare. The ones he chose were cotton and all seemed to have a floral type pattern to them. Grandma undies or very young girl knickers. Nothing sexy about them but obviously he thought they were the pick of the bunch.

I could see the cashier look at me as I stared uncomfortably at his client so I reached to grab a pair of bagged knickers off the wall to better analyze them. I turned it around and was confronted by the actual panties that had been neatly folded in order to show the dirty gusset. Proof that it was a worn pair. I turned it quickly back around as I could feel reflux creeping up my throat, only to find myself staring into the face of the girl I had picked. She was a young school girl, about 17. She was sitting cross legged on the floor, completely covered by her uniform with her hands behind her back like she'd been tied up. She didn't smile, she just stared and I felt my stomach lurch as I thought about what the man who made this purchase would actually be feeling. Nothing at all like I was feeling, I'm sure...

The sticker below it told me how much she was worth... $40 for this innocent high school girl. And the number on the bag told me how many days she had worn the brief in a row before selling them. That meant a more lingering scent and deeper stain... Lucky these bags were well sealed. I wondered if someone would pay high dollar for my Aussie vomit?

Most of the panties in the store seemed to be cotton based and all of a light colour. They liked the stain to be more obvious on the used underwear they were about to purchase. They didn't seem to like dark lingerie in Japan. They favored innocence or faux innocence as I found it to actually be.

"Are you selling?" The man behind the counter questioned after his other client had left the store. I guess he had been waiting until the buyer had left so we could talk money. I presume females would only ever come in to sell.

"Um no I'm just looking thanks...." I said rather embarrassed. What was I doing here?? I felt so uncomfortable but I wanted to learn more. I was here to research and I needed some answers. I had to suck it up....

"Um, actually, how much would you pay for mine? But I don't want to show my face...."

"If you hide your face I will give you $20. But if you show your face I can give you $30. That's more than I pay the other girls. You're half Japanese aren't you?"
He offered more for my nationality. He would've given less if I were full Japanese and believe it or not, even less if I had been full western! The fascination comes in the innocence of their own culture and these girls breaking the rules.

Once I started talking to him he explained to me how it worked. Girls could come and sell whatever underwear she was wearing but they had to take them off in front of him. He recommend wearing them for more than one day and doing whatever it takes to make them dirty. They had to have visible stains or he couldn't sell them. Secondly he had to see that you weren't cheating and you didn't have multiple pairs of underwear on. In other words, he had to see flesh underneath.

All underwear must have an accompanying photograph that he himself would take of you. If you didn't want to show your face, that was the least money you could earn. But the more you showed the more money you could make. He told me about the toilet out the back that a lot of girls liked to use. Here, he said you didn't even have to show your face but only pee into your pants while he took the photo. If you wanted to be completely nude while doing it he would give even more. It was so matter of fact. He said all of this without a hint of humour. This was his job not his own personal fetish. Well not anymore...

Rope has been around for 20 years in the same location but things had changed in that time. The first time I visited the store was in 2009 and then again last month I went to see if it was still around and try get some photos and more information. The desire for these used panties and uniforms had waned. The more easily accessible these things become the less desirable they were. Japan had a completely different style to their pornography ultimately creating different fetishes. They were about voyeurism and innocence. They created a sexual world that was so different to that of western culture. It was fascinating!

Here at Rope you could buy used pantyhose, bra and bottom sets, high school girl uniforms and from the hidden stash... even used sanitary napkins along with the girls blood type... Yes you heard me correctly... I was told a lot of the men who purchased the used panties or uniforms also wore the garments. That was half the fun. Not just possessing and sniffing them, some would actually wear them under their suit and then head off to work.

Girls who sold often came in on a regular basis. Some he told me just did it for fun, not for the money. I don't know about that... But then again the money he was offering would only cover a meal or two in Tokyo. Luckily the lingerie in Japan is so cheap. The style they sold was basic wear mainly and not the fun frilly items you would buy in a normal lingerie store in Tokyo. They were more the type that a young school girl would wear. Striped cotton tails. Faux innocence.

Prices for used panties varied from $30-$60ish AUD. It depended on the photograph. Sets that were used didn't cost much more but anything worn and with a photograph were all about the same. They also had vintage style bodysuits and chemises, washed, for around $35 which seemed to be popular and uniforms from $70- $700 (though I heard some could go into the thousands).

For those who want to find and see this store for themselves, here are clear directions on what to look for and where it is located.  〒151-0052 Tōkyō-to, Shibuya-ku, Dōgenzaka, 2 Chome−20−4

I will leave it up to you to decide if I sold my panties there or not. But if you decide to go to Rope, perhaps you should check out whats on the top shelf!

Do you think lingerie itself is a fetish or just something everyone should indulge in?

How to buy and sell used panties in Japan Part #1

Warning. This post contains adult content.

Over the many years I had been visiting Japan, I had heard rumors about these elusive vending machines that sold used women's panties... Used panties? Who would sell their dirty underwear? And more importantly, who would buy them?? Since I always traveled there with my family I never had the opportunity to discover this phenomenon for myself, until a few years ago... What you're about to read I have barely told a soul, so please, don't tell my mum!

Whilst in Tokyo about five years back, I finally got to experience the used panty fetish first hand. As I shopped solo around a young fashion building I found that I was was being followed by what I call a salary man. He was in his early 40s, neatly presented, wearing a business suit. I wasn't dressed up at all. In fact, I looked like a tourist. I wore a basic black cotton dress of modest length, my hair tied up in a pony tail, bare legs and sandals. All the girls in the complex looked like living dolls compared to me. They were dressed immaculately with their hair curled to perfection, eye lashes that made them look like manga characters and all wore high heels.

The only reason I actually noticed this man, was because the complex housed fashion for young females only. The rare man that wandered the building was firmly attached to one of these overdressed giggly females. This man however was walking amongst racks of high heels, kawaii dresses and ruffled lingerie  just staring at women, not the garments. Something wasn't right.

After tagging behind me for two floors, trying to catch my eye, I started to feel extremely uncomfortable and decided to head to the nearest ladies room. I felt that I couldn't alert security, my Japanese language skills were pretty poor and I didn't think I could describe this man to them well enough. So I decided to wait it out until he had gone. Once I emerged from the bathroom and started my walk down the corridor, he stepped out and blocked my path.

"I would like to buy your panties." He said very politely in Japanese.
"Sorry I don't speak Japanese!" I said cheerily in English as I tried to walk past him and pretend I didn't understand what he said. Maybe I had heard wrong... I wasn't sure.  He tried again.

"I would like to buy your dirty panties. I will give you $200 for them." I had heard him correctly...
He proceeded to try hand me two fresh $100 bills (10000yen) as he made a motion for me to remove my underwear right then and there. I stood in complete shock, unable to move or say a word. He could tell that I had understood him.

"Ok ok. $300 then. But they better be dirty... And you need to take them off in front of me."

Was this actually happening? I felt violated, scared, yet completely fascinated by what this random man was asking of me. We were in a public space. Someone could have come around the corner any second and found him there harassing me. But he had no fear and he said it all so politely, like this was normal.

"No, no thank you....." I don't know why I was being so polite! Was it because he was or was it a cultural thing somehow inbred in me? I was half Japanese after all.

He then proceeded to under his fly and pull out a tiny flaccid penis as he started to rub away at it with one hand and the other held the cash asking me to take it.

"It's ok you can take the cash if you just stand and watch me. It will only take a minute."

At this point I shoved him out of the way and ran out of the building and back to my hotel. As soon as I walked in the door, I burst out crying. This whole fetish that had fascinated me previously suddenly disgusted me. Why did he think it was ok to approach a foreigner in a shopping complex to ask her to take off her panties? Was this normal? Was this just a fetish held by the rare few? Did this happen to everyone? Did I somehow lead him on by the way I dressed or my politeness? Should I have worn jeans that day?

Once I relaxed and realised that he wasn't out to harm me and I was completely fine after this tale, I decided to do some research on the used panty fetish. I had new eyes now. I had seen it first hand and I wanted to learn more.

The Japanese culture tends to blend an over uniformed style with a deep undercurrent of everything that is seen to be taboo. Pay by the hour hotels are blatantly advertised all over the country as a stop off for a quickie session. Manga characters take on a childlike innocence mixed with extreme blatant sexuality where kawaii turns hentai. Business men who bow to their clients as a sign of respect then hit the karaoke bars together and get wasted and then go in search of used panties! (Well that's what I pictured anyway.. )

After talking to some locals I heard the used panty vending machines had been banned a year or so earlier due to the selling of under aged girls underwear. It was something they were finally trying to control. The whole school girl fetish was huge in Japan. So much so that you could find girls way out of high-school wandering the streets in full uniform attire looking for her next sponsor. They were easy to spot. Skirt hitched so short you could actually see her underwear while she sported a designer hand bag, showing she could be bought. Or at least her panties could be. Real school girls carried their actual school bag.

There was however still specialized stores that sold not only used panties but school girl uniforms. And one wasn't far from where I was staying. This was something I had to see for myself...

But this I will have to leave for the next post!

I apologise if this post offends any of my readers out there as I know this is meant to be a light hearted lingerie blog, but there is a lot behind what I am trying to write about. As I continue posting I hope to shed some light onto the cultural differences that then mold the lingerie industry in this country and better explain why it is completely different to our own. It isn't just about it being "kawaii...!" There is depth behind the style.

Would you sell your used panties for a price?

Lost in Japan

I have recently returned from a much needed holiday, including one full week in Tokyo. Japan is a country I hold extremely close to my heart. It not only houses one full half of my family but a huge portion of my soul and ultimately... who I am. There are people and places in the world that in some unknown way, you feel a deep connection and safeness with. A place where you feel completely at home in their embrace without needing to communicate in the same language. Japan is that for me.

Over the years of visiting this country I have watched the culture slowly change. Tourism kicked in and the western way of life took over. The outfits started to blend into one another rather than stand out like it used to. The sub cultures began to flitter away and mainstream kicked in completely. Casual was in. Lolitas were out. Vending machines were banned from selling used womens panties and there were no areas where being a Gaijin (foreigner) was a phenomenon anymore. Suddenly I wasn't rare. I wasn't special. I was just another tourist... lost in Japan.

I spent seven days in a city populated by THIRTEEN MILLION residents. Day in and day out you never once could find a space where someone else didnt also occupy it. It wasn't so much a holiday escape as it was a pure experience. I knew what I was in for, visiting this huge city but I intensely loved and craved the craziness of what Tokyo had become. I knew I could relax once I was fully immersed within it's embrace. It would just take time, just like any new relationship.

My memories of this country didn't live up to the standard that I had formed. It had been five years since my last visit and in that time I had changed and so had the culture. The inherent nature Id grown to expect, still existed however the extreme contrasts seemed to have blended into an amalgamation of what was now normal Japanese culture. I wanted the extremes; not normality!

Where were the Ganguro gyaru? (panda girls) Why weren't school girls wearing socks that were 150cm in length? Where did the business men sing karaoke? Didn't they do that anymore??  And why didn't I feel the need to buy lingerie at every store I walked into?

Over the next couple posts I will share my experiences whilst in Japan. My lingerie shopping, Love hotels, the Japanese lingerie style, the sex industry, their culture and.... ah.... hmm.. cough cough.... selling my used panties...

Intrigued? You should be! There is so much more to Japan than just... kawaii!

Have you lingerie shopped in Japan before? Want to learn more?

Why the droop when I wear stockings?

Photography by Peter Soulis Model Ellie Lemons Stylist My Lingerie Addiction

For those hoping to read something a bit dirty, a bit seedy, I'm sorry to say it but I just love a good innuendo title! This blog gives me so many opportunities to play with words as I see fit, so if that's what you were hoping to read, you better log out now. I'm only going to talk about stockings and why they sometimes droop.

After the last blog post I wrote on stockings versus stay ups I was asked a question on where you could buy stockings with an angled peak. At first I didn't quite understand what this client meant. I'd heard and owned ones with contrast colour welts, key hole features and signatures. But angled peak stockings? Why didn't I own these already?! I thought I knew all there was to know about lingerie and the accessories that go along with them. I asked a little bit more about the style she was trying to hunt down, and then she showed me an image similar to the following... (hers was more exaggerated though)

To those who don't wear stockings and suspender on a semi regular basis, this is an image of a normal pair of stockings that have been pulled up tight creating a stretch and droop effect.. Her boyfriend had shown her this image and now wanted to buy herself a pair. She had gone to Myer, David Jones, numerous lingerie stores, on the hunt for a pair just like it. The problem was that any staff she showed this image to told her, they didn't stock angled top stockings and perhaps should try another store...

With time, movement, over stretching and general wear: the fabric of the hosiery can create an angled peak  pull where attached to the suspender hooks. This client had gone into multiple stores where the staff knew nothing about stockings for suspenders and they too had presumed that the photo she'd shown them were of a special style that they just didn't sell there... "Perhaps you should look online?"

I started to think about all the things I presume every one knows, as people I usually talk lingerie with, work within the industry and are very passionate about their field. I often forget that the whole purpose of the blog is to introduce lingerie to people who are wanting to learn a little bit more in an easy and non judgmental way. I had to tread carefully and back it up with facts.

I had to do quite a bit of talking to make her start to consider that the droop effect came from wearing a normal stocking itself. I showed her items she could buy but she was convinced they weren't right. I eventually had to flash her my stocking tops in order to try make her understand what wearing stockings daily can do to them.

"Yes, exactly like those ones!"
"They are the ones I just showed you...."
"But the ones you showed me weren't angled! They were straight!"
"They are exactly the same ones that I am wearing but I've worn them all day. For ten hours and pulled my suspender straps tight. They've just started to droop now."

She still wasn't fully convinced that I was right and she was wrong. She decided to keep searching the world for these elusive angle topped stockings her boyfriend had shown her... Good luck is all I could say as I helped her purchase the rest of her goodies.

For the lingerie and stocking enthusiasts out there who know of these mythical, angled top stockings, please send through a link so we can help this girl out!

What stocking brands do you wear?

Why rules are meant to be broken

My Aubade 'Sophia Glamour' Balconette and suspender short with stockings

As everyone knows, women are forever changing their minds.
"You told me you had to buy the red dress to wear TONIGHT! Why aren't you wearing it?!"
"Well I changed my mind didn't I?! I wasn't in the mood for red... Actually now that you mention it, maybe I will try it on again..."

I often feel the same when I spout out my lingerie rules, regulations and posts like they're fact. The truth is, it's just my opinion, at the time. I change my mind and preferences as often as I do my lingerie, so don't judge my rants as facts. It's just a way of me venting as well as educating. It's called a blog for a reason.

People who know me within the industry will hear me talk about wearing only stockings (or nylons) with your suspenders. But truth be known, I often wear stay ups with mine! Lingerie blasphemy I know. Yes I teach the way it should be, but hey, life isn't always like that. Rules are meant to be broken.

My Bordelle Bodysuit with suspenders and stockings

In winter you will always find me wearing either a corset, waist cincher or suspender belt set. Not just because I love to wear them but I need to layer up my lingerie in order to keep warm. I only wear dresses and never pants, so the cold winter weather means I have to wear hosiery in order to keep my legs warm. And I don't like to wear pantyhose...

When I wear stockings and suspenders under my shorter length dresses I always find I end up flashing the double layer tops and a dash of skin as the stockings start to droop. I get unwanted attention and this is not what I want. So with the length of dress I choose to wear I opt for stay ups in order to hide the fact I am not wearing a full coverage opaque pantyhose. I still attach them to my suspender belts as there's not many brands I trust to stay up after multiple washes and wears. (I have had them fall down awkwardly a few too many times for me to have complete faith.)

My Ambra Stay ups worn with black Swarovski crystal hand beaded Stella McCartney set

With the stay ups I wear you can still attach them to a suspender belt, though obviously a little fiddlier to do due to the silicone backing. But it means that I can sit them higher on my leg and they remain straight and never have the droop factor that stockings do with wear.

When recommending stockings to clients I often opt for sheer 15 denier for a dressy look and often just in a skin tone in order to blend with the leg rather than highlight it. However my daily winter wear is Ambras Opaque no show stay ups in 70 denier. Heavy weight, silky feel and the perfect plain top look. I pull them up higher than I should and I clip them to my suspenders just in case. Though I've found for about the first 5 wears it's still secure enough to wear them only as a stay up. They are hypoallergenic and perfect for my super sensitive skin. Most stay ups leave me with welts after the first wear. Even after washing them first.

Opaques last longer, keep my legs warmer and I prefer the more casual approach to my lingerie rather than dressing it up too obviously as a daily look. It's all about comfort for me. And having sensitive skin also I have found I react badly to a lot of stay ups on the market however this one has become my savior. I have recommended them to many people and now I share my secret with you. I make a lingerie mistake every day. I don't always wear traditional stockings with my suspender belts. I more often than not, wear stay ups attached... Don't judge me.

BLOW

As the wind blows away the truth
That has polluted my breath for so long
The air around me
slowly
becomes clearer

Somehow life had become stilted
All the clocks had stopped ticking
Time had slowed
and nothing at all
had moved on

I had waited until my heart had stopped beating
Till my eyes had stopped seeing
And I heard nothing of what anyone yelled my way

Then fates breeze started blowing
With a force that knocked me down
It blew me off the course
I thought was carved in stone

The lights suddenly became brighter
and heights I yearned for
became so much closer
Nothing was what I expected
yet everything was what I wanted

And all I needed to do
was blow the past away

Blow it away
with a breeze between the trees
with a gust between the needs
Blow away the doubts that had been seeds
The lust that had been greed
The need no longer me...

I waited until I was ready
Until it was my time
and now
this blow is mine

-My Lingerie Addiction

My life hasn't been a breeze for over a year now and time is something I struggle to keep a check on. I adore what I do for a living but when you are working two jobs within an industry you are highly passionate about, it makes it hard to have what I call a life

Recently I took a trip to the country side with friends for a much needed escape. As always I took along a bag full of lingerie.  Each time I think I will take a break from my work for awhile, somehow it draws me back in. Not because I need to be that involved but I find once I relax I automatically become more inspired to work harder. I guess it is my calling.

The above photos are all untouched shots I took of my Pleasure State Couture "Tiara" pleated chemise. Every time the wind blew, the piece took on a completely different look. I loved the way the pleats would fall and float as the winds grew stronger. It inspired the shots and it created the poem. Lingerie has become my muse...

So let me ask you, what inspires you to be creative?

Lingerie and the single girl

Aubade 'Endormie' Chemise

I'm going to let you in on a little secret... I am single and have been for awhile (yes hard to believe for someone with a lingerie addiction). My friends always tell me, "You'll have a boyfriend in no time if only they knew what you did for a living!" But the truth is actually quite the opposite. Through time and bad media exposure, the word lingerie has been intrinsically linked to sex. And if you work in the lingerie industry, it ultimately means to men, that I'm easy and I want to sleep with them. Because hey, isnt that why I wore stockings and suspenders on our first date? (not that I wear them every day or anything like that...)

This becomes an issue for me when a potential mate decides its ok to ask upon first meeting me, "So what lingerie are you wearing today?" (as an image builds in their head). It puts me off telling men what I do for a living. But the lingerie world is my life, my passion, and has been my career for fourteen years. How could I have an honest conversation with someone if Im not to mention what my life is about and what I'm ultimately working towards...

Bordelle Gia Bra and Crystal Heart Suspender Skirt

Women also seem to have forged the same link between lingerie and sex and I hear far too many female clients say, "Why would I wear or buy nice lingerie? I don't have a boyfriend!" Well neither do I, but I wear beautiful lingerie every day for no one but myself. I feel good when I wear it and I won't stop just because no one else gets to see it.

Yes lingerie is the last remnant of modesty before taking things further with a lover, hence it can be seen as an item of lust by some. But its also the garment that protects as well as supports your body. Its the first piece of fabric you step into when you get dressed in the morning. So why is lingerie seen to be about the other person?

Being single doesn't mean you start wearing your old striped undies and beige T-shirt bras. Or that when you get a new partner suddenly your 'frivoulous lingerie' drawer gets opened and you start to wear your matching sets again. When we dress up for him we usually put on an outfit that we feel sexiest in. More confident in. More beautiful in. So why cant we do this for ourselves? We're the judgmental ones... Not them.

La Perla Jean Paul Gaultier Bra with 'Fiebre De Amor' fringe high waist bottom

We women dress up in order to impress the people around us. We over analyze our appearance and constantly compare ourselves to others. We look in the mirror far more often than males do. So why don't we start first thing in the morning by putting on a beautiful lingerie set just for ourselves and look in the mirror with a cheeky smile, knowing that no one will get the privilege of seeing what you're seeing. Spend the day with that air of confidence and no one need know why.

Do you save your good lingerie for when someone else is going to see it? Or do you wear it for yourself?
